Here you can complain about sucky codecs and ask for help. I start.
I downloaded a manga movie (Spirited away) and I got it as a .mkv
How the hell do I decode that file so I can see it on my computer or do you know any program that can show it atm? I have tried to open it in windows media player classic and save it as .avi but it doesnt work (even tho I have read it should).

this time I solved my own problem.
http://www.cccp-project.net/
that page contains a codec pack and video player (zoomplayer) and together those will allow you to see mkv files in both windows media player classic and zoom player.

Media player classic then use these codecs
CoreAVC, Hali Media Splitter, FFdshow (diable x264), AC3 filter and you are all set for all kinds of movies.
This is alot beter then CCCP one.
I learned this from a few hdtv torrentssites and so far it havn't let me down.
MKV plays best in MPC with CoreAVC

VLC!
http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
VLC media player is a highly portable multimedia player for various audio and video formats (MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, DivX, mp3, ogg, ...) as well as DVDs, VCDs, and various streaming protocols. It can also be used as a server to stream in unicast or multicast in IPv4 or IPv6 on a high-bandwidth network.
It can do alot of diff stuff, check em out here:
http://www.videolan.org/vlc/features.html
Imo, it can play almost anything :P

VLC is actually one of the worst players for MKV, hdtv movies cause the built in codecs which sucks and you can't change them so easy. For normal movies sure VLC handles everything good.
Use MPC and disable internal filter for MKV and just tell it to use CoreAVC or something like that.

codecpacks is actually the worst thing you can use cause it contains so many things you don't need and many often gives you stuff that will slow movies down. Especially sldcodecpack and CCCP.

there I got a reason why your version was better than cccp taskman :) Thanks. I usually dont accept "because it is better" but if it slows down as a reason then I can fully accept it :)
only Hali Media Splitter didnt work either, had it from before.
